EVERYONE DESERVES
A CHANCE

GIVING A VOICE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST

PLOD is a young voluntary organisation in the UK that focuses on raising awareness and providing tangible support to some of the most vulnerable in society.

We want to challenge misconceptions, improve access to justice, and most importantly, make the UK fairer and inclusive. We aim to achieve this through our different PLOD Projects.

WHO WE SUPPORT

HOMELESS PEOPLE

In 2020 it has become more apparent than ever the importance of having a roof over your head. 320,000 people in the UK are considered homeless. We work to provide emergency support, raise awareness and advocate for those needing assistance but have been let down by the system.

REFUGEES & MIGRANTS

In a time when many are trying to demonise refugees and migrants, we believe showing compassion and care to these individuals is fundamental. Having suffered some of the most traumatic experiences, we work to challenge misconceptions about immigration and provide support to these individuals.

BEREAVED CHILDREN

A deeply sad and traumatic issue, it is something many struggle to discuss. It is also something a lot of people fortunately do not have the experience of. The lack of support however is a hidden problem and we want to work to increase awareness and provide on-going funding for initatives to help bereaved children.

REASONS WE WORK ON THESE ISSUES

  • 320,000 people are homeless in the UK according to Shelter at the end of 2019. This equates to 1 in every 201 people in the UK.
  • 28,000 of these individuals sleep rough on the streets of the UK every night according to BBC research.
  • 111 children, under the age of 18, lose a parent in the UK every single day according to Child Bereavement UK.
  • 41% of young offenders experienced bereavement as a child according to Winston’s Wish.
  •  By the end of 2018 there were 126,720 refugees, 45,244 pending asylum cases and 125 stateless persons in the UK, equivalent to 0.26% of the UK’s total population, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
  • 1.4 million people in the UK have no recourse to public funds (NRPF), according to Citizens Advice.
